Animals seem to be getting more intelligent lately?and they?re also getting MAD!

In India, a wild elephant pulled a man down from a tree, trampled him to death, and has been carrying the corpse around as a grisly souvenir for the past 2 weeks. Police haven?t been able to get it away from him.

The man climbed the tree to get away from the herd of elephants that was rampaging through his village. We have no information about why the elephants may have been angry at the villagers. The elephant grabbed the man, pulled him to the ground, and broke his legs.

Three Congressmen, Alcee Hastings, Corrinne Brown and Carrie Meek, all members of the Congressional Black Caucus, have called for a formal debate on the legality of the Electoral College votes from Florida.

Congressman Hastings said, “the American people are looking to us not only for public outrage, but also for leadership. In this case leadership calls for courage.”

The process of congressional challenge is little-known and the fact that there is a serious possibility of one when the Florida electors are presented for congressional certification on Saturday has not been properly reported.

The unexpected Y2K bug bites continue. Besides stopping trains in Norway and cash registers in Texas, it has caused 3,000 potential jurors in Multnomah county, Oregon to be sent summons requiring them to show up for jury duty in 1901. In this case it was court workers who caused the problem by typing 2 digits into their computers instead of 4. If they had exercised their fingers a little more, the computers would have read the dates correctly.

NASA’s Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking System has detected five more near-earth asteroids in the past few days, after a near-miss was recorded over Christmas. While the number of large near-earth asteroids is believed to be between 500 and a thousand, not the 2000 previously estimated, it appears that the overall number of objects may be much higher than expected.

Asteroids are still being detected with very little advance notice, and being given almost no media attention at all. On December 19, 2000, Whitleysworld.com was among a very few media sources to report that earth was going to experience a near-miss in a few days. Object 2000 YA was detected on December 18, and passed within 2 lunar distances of earth on December 22nd
