Wernher von Braun was one of the most important rocket developers and advocatess of space travel in the 20th century. An ex-Nazi scientist, he came to the US after the war as part of the "Paperclip" program, and worked for us at the White Sands Proving Ground in New Mexico (should we still be afraid of these Nazis today?) It turns out he was there in July, 1947 when a UFO crashed in nearby Roswell.

We don’t seem to know how to fix the economic crisis, but economist Paul Krugman thinks aliens might be able to do it–or at least human preparation for an alien invasion could do it. Since we ended the Great Depression with Government spending–and eventually with spending for World War II–preparing to fight off aliens might work this time. On the other hand, we’re already fighting TWO wars, and we’re as broke as ever.

Animals are trying t communicate with us, but we don’t know how to interpret their sounds. For instance, chickens can’t speak, but they can definitely make themselves heard. Most people who have visited a poultry farm will recall chicken vocalization–the technical term for clucking and squawking–as a memorable part of the experience.
Researchers now believe that such avian expressiveness may be more than idle chatter. They are investigating whether the birds’ volubility can provide clues to how healthy and comfortable they are.

That asteroid that hit the earth 13,000 years ago was a killer, all right–it triggered an ice age that wiped out most of the large animals on Earth. Melted glass buried deep within the Earth at sites around the world confirms the theory that a comet or meteor was responsible.
In the June 12th edition of the Los Angeles Times, Thomas H. Maugh II writes: "The Younger Dryas event began about 12,900 years ago and lasted about 1,300 years.
"The period is named after the alpine-tundra wildflower, Dryas octopetala, which spread southward during the period. Average temperatures during the period dropped by as much as 20 degrees Fahrenheit in Europe, perhaps a little less in North America.
