Whitley and his experiences at his family cabin in upstate New York are the focus of a new documentary titled Shock Docs: The Visitors, airing on the Travel Channel and streaming on discovery+ on Monday, September 5.
After nearly three decades Whitley returns to the cabin where his 1985 encounter with the Visitors took place, documented in “Communion”; –a new edition of the 1987 bestseller has been released that includes a new introduction by Strieber.
Whitley is accompanied by investigative journalist Melissa Tittl and UFO researcher Jeff Belanger, who conduct a paranormal investigation of the cabin and the woods where Whitley would encounter the entities that would later come to be called “The Visitors”: is the land the cabin is built on a doorway to another world, or is it something about Whitley himself that facilitated contact? Or is it both?
Whitley’s initial experience unlocked what would prove to be a lifetime of anomalous experiences, contact and discovery, and his recounting of these episodes would go on to connect thousands of people that previously thought they were alone in what they experienced.
The two-hour special Shock Docs: The Visitors airs on Monday, September 5 at 9pm EST/PST on the Travel Channel, and streams at the same time on discovery+; the trailer for the documentary can be viewed on YouTube.

Whitley, I sent this on to a few of my family members, they need to watch it. Below is what I received back from my niece today. Also, I will have to wait until later this week to view it since I do not have the Travel Channel or Discovery+. ALL……. be sure and watch the trailer.
Response from my niece:
“OMG! I got chills and goosebumps watching this and it took me back to that minor experience I had with the grey guy in my bed and all those hands poking all over me! It’s minor compared to poor Whitley. I’m telling you this is FREAKY CREEPY!! I agree they are here and not going anywhere. THANKS FOR SENDING THIS.”

Shock Docs: The Visitors already appears to be streaming on Discovery+ ahead of the Travel Channel broadcast, and is probably the best option for those viewing the documentary outside of the US.
Discovery+ is a subscription service, but offers a free 7-day trial for signing up–just remember to cancel afterward if you do not intend to keep the service!
Dear Mr. Streiber,
I read “Communion” when it was first published many years ago. The book scared and fascinated me. I have followed you and read your books ever since. I have always believed you and so appreciate you sharing your personal journey. Thank you.
I loved it, Whitley. Seeing Anne tell your story with you in high-definition video was such a pleasant surprise. She was alive again. Her love, support, and wisdom were shining through as usual.
The show was moving in so many ways. What an extraordinary life you have led. I want you to know that you have made a considerable impact to my life. I read Communion immediately after it was published and have been following you ever since. I have read all your books and subscribed to this site for as long as I can remember. You have helped satisfy some of my curiosities about the strangeness of this life and reality. You have helped guide my spiritual journey significantly. You have shaped my thoughts about love and compassion and so many other things. You’ve been a great teacher, a great inspiration. So, despite some of the anguish and pain this experience has brought you, you should know of the profound impact you’ve had on so many people like me. I hope you’ve heard this from many others and will continue to hear it. God bless you and thank you for the beautiful life you’ve led and shared.
I have to agree … love the show as well.
They did a great job in putting new life back into this historical event. Hopefully this time it will be better accepted and will open the minds of a new generation.
Great job Whitley!!!
My wife and I watched the Shock Docs earlier today. We both found the show to be very informative, and we agreed the content definitely needs to be be shared with everyone and anyone.
I for one am a fan of Communion, even though it scared the crap out of me when I first read it. I mean, I checked the closets and under the beds for days afterwards. Which seemed weird to me, because I don’t have any conscient recollections of the visitors.
Additionally, I’ve always told my wife that she shouldn’t read Communion, because she wouldn’t be receptive to the idea of beings invading our personal spaces. With that said, I was a little hesitant towards her watching this, and there were parts where she was actually a little freaked out.
Otherwise, we were both ecstatic to see Anne’s reactions towards the whole ordeal. We miss her dearly!
Also, we both enjoyed seeing Whitley visit the cabin again for the first time in years.
I know how hard this has been for you. Very well done documentary. Even though I know the story so well the show still sent tingles down my spine. Everyone with even a passing interest in this subject should watch the documentary. The experience is very complex on many levels.
I was blown away. Like many people I have been interested in the phenomenon since I was a teen. This show put so much into perspective; Whitley will eventually be redeemed. We are now aware far too much to pretend this is some transient or incredible thing.
We know what’s happening. What we don’t know is WHY. Are they building a hybrid race? What will they do with those they have abducted and ‘used,’ in their experiments? I fear for my children and grandchildren, I am Whitley’s age so I am hoping I am still around to see this phenomenon explode into full awareness. We simply cannot pretend anymore.
Thank you Whitley; the program was wonderful, and as always you come across as the sincere person that you are, and you articulate your experiences so very well. I applaud you for your tremendous courage.
What a wonderful, amazing and heartfelt show. Seeing Anne voice her take as the events unfolded was incredible. Reliving it through your tapes was extremely difficult.
Oh Whitely your are so strong and brave to keep moving forward. Your strength has helped so many. Many Blessings to you! Please know that you are on the right path.
This was very good.
There were strange audio/visual mismatch glitches (via Xfinity or Comcast tv in nor cal) with frozen visuals and broken up audio.
There are no glitches in the original video, so this was probably a streaming issue.
Is there any expectation that this might become available through Prime Video or perhaps as a rental in YouTube at some point?
I was wondering about that too. Have Prime and NetFlix but not Disco+. Rental would be terrific for we other platform poor cousins.
Whitley – Even being a long-time subscriber I’ve never written before. Seeing this documentary renewed all the intense experiences I was having around that same time period with this phenomena. (mid-80’s and onward). It was at that time I moved to the property I still reside, a double electro-magnetic vortex that brings them, and other phenomenon through. I didn’t know about you until “Communion” but have followed your work and radio show since you began.
Thank you for being such a brave soul throughout your life. You are an incredibly special person and have shared so much with us. How blessed we are to have you in our lives. No one else brings the respect and reverence to the subject as you do.

I got the email about this on Sept. 6, the day after the doc aired on the Travel Channel. Will it be re-aired on Travel? I am unable to time travel to catch it in the past.
Isn’t it permanently available as a video?
The show brought back some haunted memories from my past which I portrayed in this song that I wrote back in the 1980’s … Link to it below:

Dear Whitley, I watched your documentary last night and was very moved by it in places. I’m surprised it’s taken this long for someone to step forward and want to tell your story in a significant documentary. I have always taken very seriously the impact that the ridicule over your rape must have had, and how and why anyone thought it was remotely acceptable to make fun of it. I hope that you are satisfied with the outcome of the documentary and that it helps people understand the terror of your initial remembering of these experiences you had and just how hard you have had to work to make some kind of peace with them. I found your comments to this truly inspirational. I will always remember meeting both you and lovely Anne when you spoke at my crop circle conference in the UK in 2012 – despite your nervousness you gave a great presentation and I very much appreciated hear Anne speak – which was a first for me. I wish you well Whitley xxx
I’m trying to work out how I can watch it in the UK – I’m really looking forward to this.
Hi Milk, I’m UK based too and managed to watch it on Discovery +. If you’re a Sky customer you can get a free 1 year subscription to Discovery +. Not sure about other providers though. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the Documentary Whitley. I found it really moving on many levels. Well done, also, on going back to the cabin and I hope it’s proved cathartic in some way.
Although I shouldn’t be surprised, I was amazed at the amount of energy that the stone circle still seemed to be giving off. Maybe that area has always been that way or perhaps the visitors made it so. Very fascinating.
I am a subscriber to Discovery + through prime video and I was unhappy to learn that I would still need to purchase this show. If I had known that I would have recorded it on my YouTube TV subscription. Now it’s nowhere to be found on that app. I know Whitley is not to blame, I just wanted to share my frustration and see if anyone else has this problem. I’ll have to end up buying it I’m sure.
It can be streamed for free on the Travel Channel app if you have a device like Apple TV that allows you to install the Travel Channel app. On Apple TV, you have to tell the app who your cable or satellite TV operator is to prove you are paying for access to the Travel Channel.
