A mysterious orb-like object was captured on camera by a Fox 5 news helicopter flying over the Hudson River and Lower Manhattan. The footage, aired by “Good Day New York,” shows the object moving at remarkable speed, appearing to outpace boats on the Hudson and following a distinct arcing pathway. The orb appears to be white initially before taking on a bluish hue as it nears the camera. Observers noted it seemed opaque rather than transparent, distinguishing it from what one would typically see with standard lens flares. At one point, the object appears to cast a shadow on a New Jersey building near Hoboken, further fueling intrigue.
Experts remain skeptical about the object’s nature. Harvard physicist Avi Loeb and retired Navy admiral Tim Gallaudet suggest the phenomenon is likely an optical illusion caused by sunlight reflecting off the helicopter’s glass or camera. Others proposed it might be a drone, with its apparent speed exaggerated by the movement of the helicopter and the camera’s frame. The “parallax effect,” used to debunk a similar unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP) in Pentagon radar footage, was cited as a possible explanation. Despite the speculation, “Good Day New York” confirmed that the footage was not digitally altered.
Some argue that if the object traveled the estimated three miles between Hoboken and the mouth of the Hudson River in just four seconds, its speed would be around 2,700 mph, more than double that of an F-18 jet. This extraordinary velocity raised questions about its origins and purpose. The footage gained attention on social media when news anchor Dan Bowens shared a clip, playfully asking if it could be a balloon.
The orb’s appearance parallels other recent reports of UAPs worldwide, including Pentagon-released footage of a metallic orb flying through military airspace. The U.S. military has admitted to being unable to identify such objects, and Congress recently held hearings on alleged UAP crash retrievals, interactions with non-human intelligence, and government suppression of whistleblowers.
While the footage has drawn comparisons to earlier UAP sightings, experts and skeptics remain divided, attributing the phenomenon either to optical artifacts or to advanced, unexplained technology. For now, the true nature of the Hudson River orb remains unresolved.
