Royalist Michael Jones says Queen Elizabeth’s claim to the throne is false because her distant ancestor, Edward IV, was illegitimate. He says the crown should have passed through another royal line which today ends with 62-year-old Michael Abney-Hastings, a construction worker who lives in Australia.
Jones says that Edward IV, who reigned from 1461 to 1483, was conceived when his parents were several hundred miles apart. His “father,” Richard Duke of York, was fighting the French near Paris, while his mother, Lady Cicely Neville, was rumored to be having an affair with a local archer. Thus the crown should have been passed down the Plantagenet line, ending with Abney-Hastings.
Abney-Hastings says, “I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet.” He says it’s “very unlikely” he’ll go to Buckingham Palace to claim his crown. When he dies, his eldest son will be King, but he says, “He’ll have to wait. It’s not available till I go.”
Maybe it’s better to stay a commoner?kings have had a lot of trouble in the past.
