Now that astronomers say that Pluto can no longer be considered a planet, what are astrologers going to do? Pluto may have been put into limbo by astronomers, but it’s still on astrology charts, and nobody plans to remove it.
Despite the fact that Pluto has been demoted, astrologers are still going to use it. Pluto was discovered in 1930, and astrologers have been using it ever since. In Bloomberg news, Vivien Lou Chen quotes astrologer Eamon Markham as saying, “Pluto works for me, so you can call it whatever you want. It doesn’t matter to me whether Pluto is classified as a moon or an asteroid.” She quotes astrologer Arch Crawford, who helps Wall Street investors decide where to put their money, as saying, “What scientists are saying is not going to exclude its effect.”
Generations of schoolchildren have memorized “My Very Energetic Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas” in order to remember the order of the nine planets in our solar system. For 70 years the “p” has stood for Pluto, the ninth and smallest planet. Now they’re going to have to come with a new acronym, since there are officially only eight planets in our solar system.
