We’ve reported on how pollution from China is affecting the rest of the world, but China’s poisoned air is killing its OWN citizens first!
750,000 people die from pollution-related illnesses every year in that country. It?s gotten so bad that the World Bank has censored the latest findings for fear that they will cause social unrest there, with a consequent loss of revenue for the rest of the world. The World Bank?s last report on China said that 16 of the world’s 20 most polluted cities are in that country. In the Independent, Clifford Coonan writes, “The Chinese capital has also been forced to promise to remove one million cars from the streets next month in an attempt to improve the environment in time for next year’s Olympic Games.” China is now building two new power plants a week and the number of automobiles there is increasing by 1,000 a day.
