It’s more important than ever to watch what you eat. We’ve told you about red wine medicine and have already written about the curry cure. Now researchers have isolated the active ingredient in turmeric root that may help boost the immune system in clearing amyloid beta, which forms the plaques found in Alzheimer’s disease. Other research has found that herpes may lead to Alzheimer’s.
Four years ago we reported on the mysterious association between the sexually transmitted disease herpes and Alzheimers disease. In LiveScience.com, Robin Lloyd writes that researchers have found a link between a gene called ApoE-4, which is a predictor for Alzheimer’s, and simplex 1 (also known as HSV), which causes herpes. Over 80% of Americans are infected with HSV, which is the form of herpes that causes cold sores around the mouth. Does this mean that 80% of us are destined for dementia? Well, yes and no.
Lloyd writes that researchers “found that ApoE-4 effectively puts out a welcome mat for the herpes virus, allowing it to be more active in the brain.” She quotes researcher Howard Federoff as saying, “The data suggest that ApoE-4 may support the ability of HSV to be a more virulent pathogen.” She writes that “scientists have found that people who frequently break out in cold sores are more likely to have the gene that makes them more vulnerable to Alzheimer’s.”
To get the authentic curry cure, you may need to travel to India, but for red wine medicine, you just need to travel to the California wine country!
