There may be ominous news in our future, because there is increasing evidence that something even more frightening than the oil spill is happening on the ocean floor of the Gulf of Mexico. We know that there’s a danger of marine life extinction, but could the oil spill lead to OUR extinction as well?

On the Helium website, Terrence Avm reports that BP should never have drilled in that area because geologists had evidence over a year ago that the seabed where they planned to drill was located directly over a huge underground reservoir of methane, and that any crack in it could lead to a huge release of methane gas–the same type of event that almost wiped out all life on Earth 137 million years ago. Homo Sapiens have been on Earth for approximately 130 million years, so if this happens again, it could be the end of the human species.
