During pregnancy, the umbilical cord supplies a baby with nutrients and oxygen from the mother. After birth, it’s clamped and snipped, leaving a short stump that eventually falls off. It’s not known exactly why there are so many shapes of belly buttons. Most people prefer belly buttons that don’t protrude.

And a new Whitley’s Journal talks about aliens he has met! – The British Ministry of Defense has once again released a series of UFO files. Many of them are easily explainable sightings, but not all. One, a close encounter discussed by Whitley Strieber in his new journal, involves the appearance of a “nordic” alien, a form familiar to UFO investigators. Another striking story involves a diamond shaped UFO which was photographed in Scotland in 1990 with a Harrier jet hovering nearby. Internal discussions at the Ministry of Defense centered around the origin of the Harrier, which officials could not explain, and whether or not the device was a US spy plane of some kind.read more

Ever wonder why you doodle while in class or in a meeting? Scientists have learned that it helps you remember what you’re hearing even though?to everyone else?it may look like you’re daydreaming. It turns out that doodlers perform 29% better on memory tests than non-doodlers.

BBC News quotes researcher Jackie Andrade as saying, “If someone is doing a boring task, like listening to a dull telephone conversation, they may start to daydream. Daydreaming distracts them from the task, resulting in poor performance. A simple task, like doodling, may be sufficient to stop daydreaming without affecting performance on the main task.”
