The Neanderthals suddenly disappeared 30,000 years ago because they didn’t have enough primitive technology to survive the ice age, while our ancestors had barely enough to make it through. There’s another ice age on the way?will we make it this time?

Douglas Palmer writes in New Scientist that using data from archeological sites, researchers have made a map tracing the movements of both early humans and Neanderthals. It shows that as Europe became covered in ice, Neanderthals and humans both retreated south. Archeologist William Davies says it’s surprising “the extent to which Neanderthals seem to have been deterred by the cold, and retreated as the going got tough.” They weren’t able to make adequate hunting tools in order to get food and fur to make warm clothing.read more

Unusually cold winters aren’t just happening in Europe and in the northeast U.S. Two inches of snow fell in the Zacatecas state of Mexico, where snow is almost never seen at all. This is part of a cold spell in Mexico this winter that has killed off 10% of the 100 million Monarch butterflies that are spending the winter there, before migrating back to the U.S. and Canada in the summer.

The butterflies have been frozen to branches by the icy winds. However, this is not their worst winter. Marco Hernandez, director of the Biosphere Reserve, where the Monarchs spend the winter, says, “In 2002, with (6 inches) of snow, we were walking on thick carpets of dead butterflies.”

In England, a man saw two jellyfish-like UFOs flying over his home, and a photographer caught similar objects on videotape in another part of the U.K. on the same night. This type of object has been reported in the past in Guatemala, among other places.

The Daventry (U.K.) Express reports that Adrian Dalton was standing in his back garden with his son when he saw two black objects in the distance that he at first thought were birds. He changed his mind when they came closer. They were brown with a dark center that pulsated and made a swishing sound. He says, “They were like two brown jellyfish in the sky, they looked like they were swimming and I had not taken any drugs.”
