Geologists have learned that there’s a huge earthquake zone in the Seattle area. They discovered this from studying a huge tsunami that hit Japan in the 17th century, triggered by an earthquake in the Pacific Northwest.

In wired.com, Leander Kahney quotes Brian Atwater of the U.S. Geological Survey as saying, “This region has the potential for truly enormous earthquakes.” His research shows that a magnitude-9 quake that occurred on January 26, 1700 sent a 15-foot tsunami into Japan about 14 hours later. In the U.S., there are Native American legends about the quake, while in Japan, it was well documented.

After crop circles appeared in a wheat field in Solano County, California, in June, four teenage boys confessed to making them. Now, after a 5 month study, researchers have concluded that they couldn’t have done it?the “hoax was a hoax.”

The Bay City News reports that Steve Moreno of Psi Applications, says, “We’ve concluded that it’s highly unlikely that four teenage boys could have made the large, complex crop circle that appeared on June 28 in Larry Balestra’s field. The scientific data, and our ongoing investigation, tend to point towards some other, perhaps anomalous, unknown source?The physical changes in the wheat stalks can’t be duplicated.”

Tiffany Roberts, an American woman who had a stroke, now has a British accent, despite the fact that she’s never been to the U.K. The “foreign accent syndrome” is rare but not unknown.

Once she began speaking again after her stroke in 1999, Roberts says, “When people first started asking me where in England I was from, and a family member asked why am I talking that way, that is when I became very conscious that a part of me had died during the stroke.”
