Automobiles and power plants spew out tons of greenhouse gases daily that contribute to global warming, but a little known secret is that sheep and cattle do too. They produce huge amounts of methane, which is a major contributor to the greenhouse effect. We may have to find alternate power sources and give up our SUVs, but do we have to become vegetarians too? Not if scientists in Australia are successful in figuring out why sheep and cattle give off methane gas, but kangaroos, who eat the same kind of grass, do not.

At the University of California, said Lisa Sloan, an associate professor of Earth sciences, has figured out how global warming will effect the climate of California within the next 50 to 100 years.

One effect that doesn?t surprise anyone is that there will be less water around. “Everybody has guessed at the effects on water resources, but now we have numbers and locations. It’s a lot different from the standard arm-waving,” she says. “Our hope is that this kind of study will give state and regional officials a more reliable basis for planning how to cope with climate change.”

Get out that tea pot and those dainty porcelain cups because scientists have declared that tea is good for your health. Drinking several cups of tea a day can help prevent heart attacks, protect bone density and guard against osteoporosis and help prevent cancer as well.

Dr. Kenneth Mukamal of Harvard University has found that drinking tea may reduce the risk of death after a heart attack. He studied 1,900 American heart attack patients and found that those who drank the most tea were the least likely to die in the three or four years after their attack.

On TV shows like CSI, forensic scientists identify crooks by the evidence they leave behind, and the best kind of evidence is fingerprints. But Tsutomu Matsumoto of the University of Yokohama in Japan has discovered that fake fingers made out of jello can leave prints that fool the experts.

His team created artificial fingers out of gelatin and used them with security systems that rely on a fingerprint for ID. They also used the jello fingers to leave fake fingerprints on a glass. This means a burglar could not only wipe off his own prints, he could leave fake ones around to fool the cops. He could even use the prints of one of his worst enemies to send the police down a false trail.
