A rectangular iceberg more than twice the size of Manhattan broke off from an Antarctic glacier this week, adding to the already high number of giant icebergs floating in southern waters. The 58-square-mile iceberg C-17 broke loose from the Matusevich Glacier in the Ross Sea. Antarctic researchers have noted an increase in the number of massive icebergs calved from the continent in recent years, an indication of global warming.

Israel?s Defense Minister Binyamin Ben Eliezer says that Iran will soon have a nuclear bomb. ?By the year 2005, they will be able to produce for the world an Iranian nuclear bomb,? he says. Iran has been able to develop nuclear capacity with the support of both Russia and North Korea.

The Israeli minister expressed hope that the United States and Russia could use their improved relations with Iran to deal with the looming threat and said he would not recommend preemptive strikes to deal with Iran?s nuclear weapons program. ?I have tried to convince everyone not to use bombardment. There are diplomatic ways, economic sanctions, whatever,? he says.

Effective immediately, the FBI has issued a terror alert of a possible attack on the United States or US interests in Yemen on or around Tuesday, February 12. Believed to be involved in the possible attack is Fawaz Yahya Al-Rabeei, a Yemeni national traveling on Yemini Passport 00452004. His whereabouts are unknown. There is no evidence that he has entered the United States.

Scientists have developed a new class of drug which enables users to lose weight without cutting calories or exercising. Obese men who took part in a trial lost an average of more than a pound a month after being injected with a single dose of the drug.

The drug has been developed by a team of researchers at Monash University in Australia, led by Professor Frank Ng. Ng was investigating the causes of diabetes when he made the breakthrough leading to the production of the drug called Advanced Obesity Drug 9604 (AOD9604), which speeds up the body?s metabolism. Further trials of the drug will be carried out throughout the year and if they go well, a pill could be on the market in four years? time.
