This week on Dreamland, Whitley Strieber welcomes legendary near-death researcher P.M.H. Atwater for a profound exploration of one of the deepest mysteries of all: the strange connection between near-death experiences, alien contact, the dead, and consciousness itself.
Her new book, Aliens and the Near-Death Experience, asks whether these seemingly separate worlds may actually be parts of a single, immense reality. Atwater discusses her own near-death experiences, the voice that directed her life’s work, her research with thousands of experiencers, and the startling cases in which people who had NDEs later encountered otherworldly beings.
The conversation ranges from Idaho’s long history of “flying saucers” over its great canyons, to Kenneth Ring’s Omega Project, John Mack’s interest in alien identity, and Atwater’s own astonishing account of an “alien” aspect of herself called Arrakis.
At its heart, this is a conversation about what human beings really are, what death may reveal, and whether contact, consciousness, and the afterlife are all doorways into the same vast mystery.

Interesting interview. Not sure about the Arrakis stuff.
Arrakis is the fictional desert planet in the Dune books.
I wonder if she heard this name from the film or books and subconsciously latched onto it.
Hmm.
Fair point. I would also point out, though, that there’s precedent for things being slightly off in this way with the phenomenon and the names, events, and locations they give. It’s almost as if there’s another timeline or alternate dimensional aspects to it that we can’t take at a materialist face value. In Woodrow Derenberger’s Visitors from Lanulos, he claims he was taken to “Venus,” a lush planet with flowing water and rivers, whereas our scientific understanding of Venus is not that. Maybe there is a parallel version? You could also argue that the name Arrakis may have been given to Herbert through channeling or a download. Many artists claim songs, stories, and other concepts come to them in that way.
Perhaps yes saghgwa, or it could be similar to the name that it is, or it could be what Remote Viewers call an AOL, analytic overlay–that is pointing at an essence, which I personally think that is what it is especially since when asked about what P.M.H. thinks she could be by Whitley she says a “thought”, “thought form”. Being a “thought form” is consistent with another experience I recently experience, the exact phrase. I suppose, it can serve many different meanings to different people.
Perhaps a near death experience is a whole different kind of contact. Perhaps it’s a contact with something outside of our universe. While these NHI are right here with us – existing within the hologram. I believe for sure there is a whole reality outside of our universe. I think your wife was right it’s a very complicated game/plan. It always brings me back to Star Maker the book which comes as close as anything to describing a piece of it. Agreed with your wife it’s the questions that are important not the answers.
Interesting…On Saturday while cleaning the house, (a mindless chore) this strong thought crossed my mind. P’s and Q’s. NOT to watch my P’s and Q’s, only P’s and Q’s. THEN, on Saturday evening while watching the adaptation of CHARLES DICKENS “LITTLE DORRIT” a 2008 British miniseries on TUBI, an actor says, “Watch your P’s and Q’s.” This sort of thing has happened many times for me. So, is our species somehow wired to see into the future, or could we be seeing a life already lived? Any thoughts on this?
Modern Usage
Today, “watching your P’s and Q’s” is a general warning to:
Use respectful language (e.g., “please,” “thank you”)
Avoid offensive or inappropriate behavior
Be considerate in social, professional, or public settings
In short, it’s a timeless reminder to be mindful, respectful, and considerate in how you speak and act.
Interesting. This happens to me a lot– for example, I’ll be typing a word and someone says it on TV at the same instant.
I wish more people in public life would watch their Ps and Qs!
(BTW, I always understood that the saying comes from old-style printing with moveable type, where p and q are easily mixed up, but apparently there are other theories about it as well. Nothing is simple….)
This is wonderful. What a treasure is she.
Yes!
Nice verbal and non-verbal communication
When PMH mentioned being an alien, I remembered this book by Australian, Valerie Barrow. We also corresponded quite a bit. Valerie’s book was called ‘Alcheringa, When the First Ancestors were Created’ and was about an alien race that came to earth, more or less crashing here, and had a lot to do with human evolution and I wonder if any of that resonates with PMH? Valerie was a friend of Bruce Fenton, and mentioned in one of his books. I don’t know why I thought of that just now.

Yikes
Her husband Terry just announced that PMH Atwater passed away on July 10, 2026, according to her “Newsletter for the Curious.” May PMH rest in peace and shine in light.
