What happens when reality stops behaving the way we expect?
This week on Dreamland, we explore the strange territory where UFO encounters, synchronicities, and mystical experience begin to blur the boundaries of ordinary life. Our guest is Meredith Spearman, creator of the Substack Maze to Metanoia, where she examines what she calls the maze of high strangeness—and the profound inner transformation that can follow encounters with it.
Spearman is a writer, professor, and registered nurse whose work explores consciousness, anomalous experience, and the psychological upheaval that can follow encounters with the unknown. Through her writing she suggests that UFO encounters and other anomalies may act less like isolated events and more like catalysts—experiences that shatter consensus reality and force us into a deeper inquiry about mind, meaning, and the nature of the universe.
In this conversation, we ask:
Are anomalous experiences simply mysteries to be solved—or are they initiations? What happens when the strange begins to reshape our understanding of consciousness, spirituality, and reality itself?
Sometimes the maze is not something we escape.
Sometimes it is the path that transforms us.

I had untold numbers of tornado dreams my entire childhood: rope tornados spinning in my front yard, running but not making it to shelter, etc. I’ve always wondered what they symbolized from a psychological point of view as well as what else these nightmares might be pointing to or saying. My ears really perked up to hear Meredith say she experienced similar things.
A friend of mine has ongoing, recurring dreams of apocalyptic disasters involving fires that consume huge areas of the world and kill everyone she knows and love. She’s never understood where they come from, and the dreams feel to her as if they are about a real future that is coming fairly soon. I don’t know what to make of this. Her niece has the same dreams.
I’m relieved to hear that your nightmares and Mereditihs stopped.
Another fascinating and helpful conversation. Thank you both!
Speaking of ‘magic’ – there is another kind of ‘magic’ and what is interesting about this interview, is her experience at age 8. I believe children are born with the ability/awareness of existing in both the physical world and the etherial world. I had a complete out of body experience at age 8, right in front of my mother, but she could only see, and react to, my physical body which had remained in the open area of our LR & kitchen. I also believe that around the age of 8 yrs, our purpose is revealed. If you wonder why you’re here (your purpose) try thinking back to that age and what made you happy, what filled you up with joy, and you really looked forward to — it’s there.
Thank you for introducing us to Meredith Spearman! Will most definitely check out her Substack offering.
And thanks for taking back Ray Lynch for your theme music. 🙏👍 Much more fitting than that rebranding effort. 😊
I would love Mr. Strieber to do a podcast looking into these unauthorized abductions from a different point of view. When we finally get disclosure,
It’s imperative that we don’t react as monkeys that get mesmerized by shiny objects.
A highly evolved extraterrestrial civilization would follow a strict rule of non-interference.
If a species is advanced, spiritually and ethically, they don’t manipulate developing races, or abduct people. They do not land on the White House lawn.
They observe, and advice as they have been doing for eons to the few who listen but they don’t intrude.
ETs manipulating, and abducting aren’t evolved spiritually. They have given shiny technology to greedy hands that now realize have no control over them.
Hence, the secrecy. The Ra Material speaks about this and
Ingo Swann’s iconic book “Penetration.” (Also on Audible) takes u behind the curtain.
Their motives are similar to how advanced civilizations on Earth have behaved throughout history with the less advanced.
Transformation can involve healing from pain, but pain is not necessary.
Blessed are those who soothe those in pain.
Cursed forever are those who intentionally inflict pain on others!
This was a wonderful discussion, thank you.
I want to highlight something Meredith brought up early on: that the human sensorium is a legitimate, real measuring device that needs to be trusted and taken seriously as much as any instrument. Subjective experience deserves higher regard than it usually gets.
In fact, even if we are detecting and measuring something with technology, that is still only an extension of our human senses. We still have a subjective experience of those measurements. In the end everything is subjective.
