Have you ever had the experience of praying for something you desperately needed and not getting it? Of course you have, and it’s probably why you don’t pray a lot. It doesn’t work.

Or does it? When Anne Strieber got cancer, Whitley prayed for hours at a time that this burden be lifted. It was not lifted and Anne died. But in the experience of praying and failing, he came to understand that prayer is not about getting things to change, not in that way. Prayer is about inner change—finding joy, if you will, even in the darkest parts of life.

And now comes Gary Jansen’s remarkable and powerful book, The Fifteen Minute Prayer Solution. It sounds like a self-help text, but it is far, far more. Contained between its covers is one of the most powerful, practical and revelatory meditations on prayer written in modern times.

Don’t miss this wonderful interview. Gary’s explanations are empowering, his ideas are enlightening, and the exchange between Gary and Whitley is unforgettable.

A truly useful addition to Dreamland in our Year of Awakening.

  1. What a great interview.
    What a great interview. Thankyou.

On the subject of prayer, I bought a wonderful little book by Gregg Braden after listening to a Dreamland interview, in which was discussed “Secrets of the Lost Mode of Prayer”. For such a small book there is a great deal to meditate on. The secret?…[spoiler alert]…

If, for example, you were in the desert and you were praying for rain, the suggestion is that the lost way, the best way to pray, rather than just asking / pleading for rain, is to pray as if it were actually raining, right now. Imagine how it would feel as it bounced off your skin, the sound of it hitting the floor, the smell of the newly wet ground…and most importantly the intense gratitude and joy you would feel for your prayer having being answered. Of course that goes for praying for other people too…how would you feel if you knew that prayer had already been answered in full? So the prayer almost starts out being an exercise in imagination but ends up with a lingering, intense feeling – and it is this feeling that is the real prayer. This type of prayer perhaps shifts us away from being supplicants and moves us closer to being co-creators.

With regards to meditating on a repeated phase, when I first heard about this, I was really unsure. As I child I remember playing about with repeating my name over and over and I didn’t like the feeling of that name losing its meaning – it almost felt like losing my identity…very unsettling; So when I read about continually repeating a meaningful phrase during meditation, it just seemed wrong… that I would be purposefully diminishing the sense of a divine phrase…but I experimented with it anyway. The result surprised me. The phrase I first tried repeating was “God is love”…and as I repeated it, I cycled through focusing on a different word and what it meant to me…and much in the same way that the description of the prayer above gave way to a feeling, this mantra began to be replaced in my mind with the most intense loving, peaceful feeling I had experienced in a long time. It was as if I had shouted out into the dark…but instead of getting an echo, I got back the true essence of the words themselves.

Ezekiel 2:4-10New American Standard Bible (NASB)

4 I am sending you to them who are [a]stubborn and obstinate children, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord [b]God.’ 5 As for them, whether they listen or [c]not—for they are a rebellious house—they will know that a prophet has been among them. 6 And you, son of man, neither fear them nor fear their words, though thistles and thorns are with you and you sit on scorpions; neither fear their words nor be dismayed at their presence, for they are a rebellious house. 7 But you shall speak My words to them whether they listen or [d]not, for they are rebellious.

8 “Now you, son of man, listen to what I am speaking to you; do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you.” 9 Then I looked, and behold, a hand was extended to me; and lo, a [e]scroll was in it. 10 When He spread it out before me, it was written on the front and back, and written on it were lamentations, mourning and woe.

  5. Your best show to date.
    It is

    Your best show to date.
It is often said, where is God? The Pat answer, the hardest to understand is God is everywhere now and before now and beyond now. The universe is the passing thought of the Creator of which you are a part.
Then you may ask, why hasn’t God spoke to me?
The answer to that question is. Are you sure that you really want a definite answer or would you rather have the mysteries of life unfolded slowly?
If you get an answer that is dynamic like Paul or Moses, responsibility comes with that knowledge. You cannot go back. You have to act on that knowledge. You have to love. The love that is revealed to you in an unloving world will have to be exposed by you. You will have to put your life and spirit on the line like Moses, Paul and Jesus. There is no turning back. To turn back , would mean you refuse the job given you and you would be separated from God. Separated from love is a chasm of infernal darkness that offers no relief because you have known God. You have known love. You have known light.

  6. Great show Whitley. Lots
Great show Whitley. Lots in it.

Von Hausenderg, the gift you shared in your post… thank you. Very touching and kind of you… beautiful light shared.

    Sherbet, i agree.

A brief experience of the Light, creates a change in us. Just knowing we are held in such love or doing that for another… moves us into the depths of such truths we didn’t expect. Even to hear Whitley or another, openly share with us the depth of love which they have felt, can move us toward that depth in response. I think we are made that way. Resonating/ resonance with others at great depth, opens us to truth. We are lead inward and outward at the same time- Becoming One and yet still being who i am. All gift. All unexpected, freely given.

We cannot keep it to ourselves for in the experience of it, we are changed at a level others sometimes perceive.

  7. thank you – thank you – very

thank you – thank you – very much …exactly what was on my mind and what I needed to hear…

its funny how you get the message when that very thing has been on the mind.
