If you thought the only danger of drinking sodas was obesity, think again (it’s yet another example of evil corn).
Researchers have discovered that patients with pancreatic cancer (a deadly disease with no real cure) have higher-than-normal blood levels of fructose, the sugar which is found in fruit. It’s doubtful that this is because they have been drinking too much fruit juice (which contains highly concentrated fructose), it is probably due to the high US consumption of sodas, which are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. HFCS is cheaper than sugar and has led to “free refills” and a decline in cost of sodas, which in turn has fueled the obesity epidemic. HGCS is also present in most frozen baked goods and dinners, as well as in most fast food. It is feared that our bodies may handle fructose differently than other sugars, because it is a manufactured ingredient, rather than a “real food.”
A recent study reported that people who regularly drink soda may be more likely to develop pancreatic cancer: People who drank two or more sodas per week had an 87% increase in pancreatic cancer risk.
