Rep. Eric Burlison says accounts connected to a historic UFO swarm have been declassified following efforts to bring the material into the public record. Whether they will appear in the anticipated sixth PURSUE tranche remains unconfirmed.

In a Sept. 17, 2026, post on X, Burlison discussed the historical material and his involvement in efforts to have the accounts declassified. The post can be viewed on Burlison’s X account. The underlying records referenced in that post were not independently available for review at publication, meaning the nature of the information and what the documents ultimately establish cannot yet be verified.

The announcement is consistent with Burlison’s broader effort to locate historical UAP material. In May, his congressional office announced that he had asked MIT Lincoln Laboratory to preserve and review a 1952 reel-to-reel recording identified as “AF-ATIC-FILM, 03/52,” labeled “flying saucer talk” and listing former Project Blue Book chief Edward J. Ruppelt as the briefer.

Burlison later said his office received confirmation from the National Archives and Records Administration that that recording had been digitized, fully declassified and was slated for release in an upcoming tranche of UAP records.

The obvious question is whether the newly declassified material could appear in the anticipated sixth release under the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, or PURSUE.

For now, that remains unknown.

The Department of War’s official PURSUE portal lists five releases, beginning May 8 and most recently Aug. 7. As of Sept. 17, 2026, the government has not published Release 06 or announced its contents or release date.

That makes Burlison’s announcement intriguing but not confirmation of what the next tranche will contain. If the accounts do appear in Release 06, the documents themselves may finally allow researchers to determine what witnesses reported, how government investigators evaluated the events — and what, if anything, remains unexplained.
