Newly declassified government records have brought renewed attention to a little-known UFO incident reported over Harare International Airport in Zimbabwe in July 2008. Witnesses described a disc-shaped object displaying unusual flight characteristics, prompting alerts within aviation and intelligence circles. Nearly 18 years later, the case remains unresolved.

A newly released collection of government UFO records has brought renewed attention to a little-known incident that unfolded over Zimbabwe’s largest airport nearly 18 years ago.

According to documents included in a recent batch of declassified files, aviation authorities reported an unidentified object near Harare International Airport in July 2008. Witnesses described what appeared to be a disc-shaped craft exhibiting unusual flight behavior that did not match conventional aircraft operating in the area. In addition to the unusual movement of the craft, “beams” were reportedly witnessed coming from the UAP.

The incident was significant enough to trigger concern among local aviation officials. Newly released records indicate that information about the sighting circulated beyond Zimbabwe, eventually attracting the attention of U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA.

Details remain limited, but reports describe an object observed near the airport that appeared capable of maneuvers difficult to reconcile with known aircraft. The sighting occurred in controlled airspace, making it a matter of interest not only to UFO investigators but also to aviation safety officials.

The Zimbabwe case appears among a broader collection of recently disclosed records documenting reports of unidentified aerial phenomena from around the world. The files include accounts of glowing orbs, spinning discs, and other anomalous objects observed by pilots, military personnel, and civilians. In many cases, investigators were unable to reach definitive conclusions.

While the newly released documents do not provide evidence regarding the origin or nature of the Harare object, they illustrate the extent to which governments and intelligence organizations have monitored unusual aerial reports for decades. The records also underscore the international nature of the phenomenon, with incidents occurring far beyond the United States.

This case brings to mind another famous UAP case from Zimbabwe: the Ariel School incident. The Ariel School incident is one of the most famous and controversial UFO cases in history. On September 16, 1994, at the Ariel School in Ruwa, Zimbabwe, 62 children between the ages of 6 and 12 reported seeing one or more unusual silver craft land in a field near their playground during morning recess. Many of the children said they also saw small humanoid beings with large black eyes and claimed the beings communicated telepathically, conveying warnings about environmental destruction and humanity’s future.

The children were interviewed shortly afterward by Harvard psychiatrist John E. Mack. Mack was a psychiatrist, professor at Harvard Medical School, and Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer who became widely known for his research into people who reported encounters with extraterrestrial beings. After interviewing witnesses in cases such as the Ariel School incident, Mack argued that many experiencers were sincere and psychologically healthy, making him a controversial figure in both academic and UFO research circles.

For researchers of unidentified aerial phenomena, the more recent Zimbabwe sighting is notable because it involved an international airport environment, where aircraft movements are closely monitored and safety concerns are paramount. Yet despite official attention and subsequent reporting channels, no publicly available explanation appears to have resolved the case. For now, the disc reported over Zimbabwe’s busiest airport remains one more entry in the growing archive of unresolved aerial mysteries.
