A civilization of non-human entities could be living here on Earth in facilities hidden deep underground or on the ocean floor, according to a new paper published by three researchers from Harvard and Montana Technological University. The paper explores a wide variety of possibilities concerning both the origin and nature of the occupants of these elusive craft—and even touches on the possibility that they may be “walking amongst us,” disguised as ordinary humans.
Referring to these entities as “cryptoterrestrials” in their paper, The cryptoterrestrial hypothesis: A case for scientific openness to a concealed earthly explanation for Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, Psychology Research Scientist Tim Lomas and Human Flourishing Program Associate Director for Research Brendan Case, both of Harvard University, and Montana Technological University Professor of Biological Anthropology Michael Masters, speculate on the potential origins of the entities that appear to be operating the myriad UAP that have been repeatedly witnessed throughout history.
The paper points out that the hypotheses for the origin of UFOs traditionally fall into two categories: “a conventional terrestrial explanation (e.g., human-made technology), or an extraterrestrial explanation (i.e., advanced civilizations from elsewhere in the cosmos).”
“However, there is also a third minority class of hypothesis: an unconventional terrestrial explanation, outside the prevailing consensus view of the universe,” the paper continues. “This is the ultraterrestrial hypothesis, which includes as a subset the “cryptoterrestrial” hypothesis, namely the notion that UAP may reflect activities of intelligent beings concealed in stealth here on Earth (e.g., underground), and/or its near environs (e.g., the moon), and/or even “walking among us” (e.g., passing as humans).”
“Although this idea is likely to be regarded skeptically by most scientists, such are the nature of some UAP that we argue this possibility should not be summarily dismissed, and instead deserves genuine consideration in a spirit of epistemic humility and openness.”
The history of a hidden civilization such as this could appear in a number of forms, such as an ancient, technologically advanced human civilization that still exists today; an intelligent species descended from the dinosaurs; or possibly even ordinary humans from another time or parallel dimension.
The paper points to the transmedium capabilities demonstrated by UAP as potential evidence that these craft originate from here on Earth, pointing out that “some UAP seem capable of moving through air and water with comparable ease”; although the authors admit that “subsurface observations of these craft do not necessarily mean that they reside underwater,” they state that “such accounts should be considered in light of the CTH possibility.”
In addition to speculating about being (or at least operating) from deep under the ocean, the paper also explores the possibility that the occupants of UAP may also reside deep within the Earth, pointing to cases involving “craft and other phenomena (e.g., “orbs”) appearing to enter/exit potential access points, like volcanoes,” and discuss Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano as an example of a UFO “hotspot”.
“A third site of intrigue is the moon, and particularly its “far” side, which remains perennially hidden from view,” the paper adds. “Indeed, of all possible cryptoterrestrial locations, it has attracted the most speculation, with many strands of intriguing evidence accumulating over the years,” including numerous odd “coincidences regarding its size, behaviour, and composition,” noting that “as a result, some have speculated that the moon itself is an artificial NHI construction.”
There is also the possibility that these cryptoterrestrials may be hiding in plain sight: the paper says that these entities may be “‘walking among us’ disguised convincingly as regular humans,” citing John Ramirez.
Another possibility is that these entities aren’t technological beings at all, but are instead metaphysical entities, referring to such creatures as “‘magical’ cryptoterrestrials”, “a fascinating class of proposed ultraterrestrial beings that overlap with notions like angels but which can still be considered part of the cryptoterrestrial paradigm.” They also list other entities typically considered to be mythical, such as “fairies, elves, gnomes, brownies, trolls” and longaevi (“longlivers”), that could very well be part of the UAP phenomenon.
“We entertain them here because some aspects of UAP are strange enough that they seem to call for unconventional explanations,” the paper explains.
“It may be exceedingly improbable, but hopefully this paper has shown it should nevertheless be kept on the table as we seek to understand the ongoing empirical mystery of UAP.”
