For some things – Living trees are a vital part of the earth but fake ones can be important too. Engineers want to plant a forest of 100,000 “artificial trees” within the next 10 to 20 years to help soak up the world’s greenhouse gases by capturing the CO2 from the air through a filter. The greenhouse gas would then be removed from the filter and stored.
But this is basically what all trees do: Take in CO2 and breathe out oxygen. So why use fake trees? It turns out that an artificial tree could remove thousands of times more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than a real tree of the same size.
In BBC News, Judith Burns quotes researcher Tim Fox as saying, “Artificial trees are already at the prototype stage and are very advanced in their design in terms of their automation and in the components that would be used. They could, within a relatively short duration, be moved forward into mass production and deployment.” It may only be a matter of time before we see rows of fake trees “planted” on a hillside, the same way we see wind turbines today. Let’s hope they are at least somewhat aesthetic! According to the BBC, they’re about the same size as a “shipping container.”
Soon it will be hard to tell the real from the fake (maybe we’ll need to be guided by lucid dreams). There are no trees of any kind in the desert, but there are lots of stars and when a group of contactees gather together, we may even be able to call some UFOs (if it can be done in Santa Monica, the desert should be easy!)
