Drink wine! – We all hope to live long enough to witness UFO disclosure– at last. But there’s a joke going around about life-extension methods with various punch lines, all of which boil down to: “Why would I want to live forever if I’m fat and decrepit?” Well, there’s a new drug out that may solve BOTH problems at once: It may extend your life AND combat obesity. It may even help you avoid Alzheimer’s and blindness. And there is a surprisingly good reason to stay in good shape as you get older.
The good news is resveratrol, the magic ingredient in red wine that may have life-extending properties. Previous studies suggest resveratrol acts as an antioxidant that protects against cell damage. It has been shown to increase the life spans of yeast, worms and flies.
In LiveScience.com, Rachael Rettner reports that when the drug was tested on lemurs, the drug boosted the primates’ metabolism and appeared to cause the animals to cut back their food intake at mealtime, factors that could also make it an excellent diet drug.
Resveratrol also has the ability to neutralize the toxic effects of proteins linked to Alzheimer’s disease. Researcher Peter M. Tessier has discovered that the main ingredient in red wine can help break up the dangerous protein clumps that lead to brain damage in Alzheimer’s patients.
Resveratrol also stops out-of-control blood vessel growth in the eye, a discovery has implications for preserving vision in blinding eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in Americans over 50.
Our question: Will drinking a glass or so of red wine a day (a much more pleasant prescription than taking a pill) produce the same salubrious effects? Whether or not it does, it is certainly useful for seducing an older woman. A new study reveals that as more women wait until their 30s and 40s to have children, they are more willing to engage in a variety of sexual activities to capitalize on their remaining childbearing years. These activities include one-night stands and “adventurous bedroom behavior.”
