On the morning of November 22, 1963, the day Kennedy was killed, Fidel Castro ordered a senior intelligence officer who was monitoring CIA radio communications to concentrate on "any little detail, any small detail from Texas." Four hours latest, the news of Kennedy’s assassination was broadcast. Did Castro know about this ahead of time? It’s been assumed that the Mafia played a major role in the killing of JFK and the Mafia had certainly infiltrated Cuba.
The Daily Mail quotes Brian Latell as saying, "Fidel knew of Oswald’s intentions and did nothing to deter the act." The Daily Mail reports that, according to Latell, "Castro was aware that Oswald, who had been denied a visa to visit Cuba at the country’s embassy in Mexico City, told staff there that he was going to murder Kennedy to prove his allegiance to the communist cause.
"Did Fidel want Kennedy dead? Yes. He feared Kennedy. And he knew Kennedy was gunning for him. In Fidel’s mind, he was probably acting in self-defense."
However, Jim Marrs scoffs at this. He says, "This is the oldest canard going. The CIA tried to blame the JFK assassination on Castro from the git go. The problem was that lower-level CIA agents and their anti-Castro Cuban protégés were not at that time aware of the deal between JFK and Khrushchev in which it was agreed that in exchange for the Soviets pulling their missiles out of Cuba, we guaranteed to further aid or attempt to invade Cuba.
"The truth is that at the moment of the assassination, Castro was meeting with French journalist Jean Daniel, who had met with Kennedy and was sent by him to try and find some accommodation with Castro. When Castro heard the news, he exclaimed three times, ‘This is bad news’ then ‘I know they will try to put the blame on us for this thing.’ Even Oswald, during his Dallas interrogations, said, ‘Will Cuba be better off with the president dead?’ It would have been suicide for Castro to have become involved in a plot against Kennedy, whom he said he preferred over Johnson, what with the Pentagon and the CIA itching for another invasion of Cuba.
"The CIA was out of control and JFK, after the Bay of Pigs fiasco, vowed to splinter it into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds. Self-defense is the strongest motive for murder. And the cover-up, in the former of obfuscation, continues."
