Radio France International and the French newspaper Le Figaro have reported that a CIA agent met Osama bin Laden in a hospital in July and received ?precise information? about an imminent attack on the U.S. The agent met bin Laden while he was being treated at the American Hospital in Dubai for a kidney infection. During bin Laden?s stay, the local CIA representative was seen going into bin Laden’s room and ?a few days later, the CIA man boasted to some friends of having visited the Saudi-born millionaire.?
Bin Laden was in the hospital from July 4 to July 14. The agent was recalled to Washington on July 15. The hospital vigorously denies the report, which is based on a number of sources, including French secret services and ?a witness, a professional partner of the administrative management of the hospital.?
Bin Laden is said to have arrived in the United Arab Emirates from the Pakistan city of Quetta, accompanied by his personal physician, four bodyguards and an Algerian nurse. He was visited by family members and leading Saudis. The paper claims he was treated in the urology department by Dr Terry Callaway, who specializes in kidney stones and male infertility and who declined to answer questions from the press. Bin Laden is said to have severe medical problems including a ?kidney infection [that] has spread to his liver.? Le Figaro claims a mobile dialysis machine was delivered to his Kandahar hideout in Afghanistan last year.
French secret service operatives met with officials from the U.S. embassy in Paris in August. A French secret service report on September 7th warned of possible attacks, and said that the order to act would come from Afghanistan. Le Figaro says that very precise information on the targets was communicated to the CIA.
