A new, non-peer-reviewed paper from Ukrainian researchers argues that more than 20 unidentified objects observed near the Moon could point to advanced technology—but astronomers have not independently confirmed the findings.
A newly circulated research paper from scientists affiliated with Ukraine’s Main Astronomical Observatory is drawing renewed attention to one of the oldest questions in UFO research: could unidentified objects be operating near the Moon?
According to reports published by the Irish Star and Yahoo News, the researchers describe observations of more than 20 unidentified objects, some estimated to measure between roughly 15 and 25 miles across. The paper proposes that the objects display unusual motion, changes in brightness, and rotational characteristics that the authors argue may be consistent with technological rather than natural behavior.
The researchers go further, suggesting the Moon could serve as a base for unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). They speculate that some objects observed near the lunar surface could reach Earth’s atmosphere in as little as 20 minutes, according to the published reports. These conclusions remain the authors’ interpretation and have not been independently confirmed.
__________
The study itself has not been peer reviewed, and no independent astronomical organization has publicly validated either the observations or the conclusions. That distinction is significant, particularly given the extraordinary nature of the claims. Similar Ukrainian UAP research published in 2022 drew widespread attention but was later criticized by Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences for methodological concerns, illustrating how contentious such observations can become.
While the new paper is already generating considerable discussion within UFO communities, its conclusions should be regarded as preliminary until the underlying data can be independently examined and reproduced. Extraordinary claims require equally extraordinary evidence, and for now, the reported observations remain an unresolved—and highly debated—scientific question.
