Those nasty adolescent male video gamers! They’ve found a way to remove the digital bikinis of the female characters in their games, in a modern substitute for sneaking your Dad’s copy of Playboy magazine or oogling the topless women in National Geographic. The Japanese company Tecmo, maker of a video game featuring gorgeous gals in bikinis playing volleyball, has warned it will take legal action against anyone who publishes information telling how to make the women in Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball completely nude. “We’re watching you very closely! Please do not post things that infringe copyrights and other legal issues,” reads the announcement on Tecmo?s official website. This has happened with other games in the past. Patches to remove the clothes of Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider games are widely available on the internet. Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball has heroines who sun themselves and play volleyball in bathing suits on a tropical island. Since it was released in the U.S. and Japan in January, several game patches have appeared on the internet that alter the textures used to build the bodies of the women to make them appear naked.
Tecmo does not find this amusing. On its website, it says, “So far we’re tracking one suspect, anybody care to be the second?”
