The fifth tranche of government UAP files contains two strikingly similar—but not identical—October 2023 triangle sightings from Colorado Springs, a city that has appeared before in the government’s growing archive of unresolved encounters.
Colorado Springs, Colorado has surfaced again in the federal government’s continuing release of unidentified anomalous phenomena records—this time with two separate accounts of triangular objects reportedly moving through the city’s nighttime skies.
The U.S. Defense Department released its fifth tranche of records under the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, or PURSUE, on Aug. 7, 2026. The department says the archive consists of unresolved cases for which the government has been unable to make a definitive determination about the observed phenomena, sometimes because insufficient data is available.
Among the newly released material are two FBI FD-302 interview reports concerning separate sightings in Colorado Springs during October 2023. Although portions of both reports are redacted, the accounts contain intriguing similarities—and significant differences.
In the first case, designated FBI-UAP-D030, a witness told FBI investigators that sometime between 8 and 9:30 p.m. on an unspecified night in October 2023, he was outside in Colorado Springs looking at the stars with a co-worker when movement caught his attention.
According to the FBI interview report, the witness initially saw what appeared to be a stationary dark-gray cloud that looked strangely “pixelated or distorted.” A solid black, equilateral triangular object then appeared to emerge from it. The witness described a diffuse red light at each of the triangle’s three corners and estimated that the object might have been as large as the parking lot where he was standing and three to five stories thick.
The witness said the object initially moved at approximately helicopter speed before apparently accelerating almost instantaneously to what he estimated might have been Mach 1 or Mach 2. He also reported heat-mirage-like waves around it, no audible sound and no visible propulsion. At one point, the triangle reportedly banked 90 degrees before leveling again.
After the object disappeared from sight, the witness said the strange cloud was also gone. He called his wife about a minute later, and she reportedly told him his voice sounded robotic, as though the call were experiencing electronic interference. The record does not establish that the reported interference was caused by the object.
A second FBI report, FBI-UAP-D026, documents a substantially different encounter later recorded in a January 2026 interview with a former Department of War employee.
At approximately 10:50 p.m. on an unspecified date in October 2023, the witness and his wife were sitting on their back porch in Colorado Springs when an object reportedly passed over their home from the northeast toward the southwest.
This triangle appeared much smaller and lower than the object in the other account. The witness estimated an altitude potentially as low as 300 feet and, based on that estimate, believed the object was roughly the size of a large SUV.

He described the triangle as dark gray or silver and nearly translucent, with a haze or distortion around it resembling an object viewed through mist or underwater. Instead of three red lights, this object reportedly displayed a band of silver-blue light along its trailing edge.
The witness said the UAP was completely silent and traveled rapidly along a straight path at a consistent elevation. Shortly before disappearing, one side reportedly banked upward until the triangle was nearly vertical—without an accompanying change in direction or altitude. The entire encounter lasted about four seconds.

The similarities between the reports are notable. Both sightings occurred in Colorado Springs, Colorado during October 2023. Both involved triangular objects, complete silence, unusual visual distortion and unconventional banking behavior.
But the differences are equally important. One object was described as enormous, black and illuminated by three red corner lights; the other as approximately SUV-sized, gray or silver, apparently translucent and carrying a silver-blue light along its rear edge. Their reported altitudes, speeds and observation durations also differed.
Because dates and locations within Colorado Springs are redacted, the publicly available records do not establish how close together the encounters occurred in either time or distance. Nor do the records establish that the two witnesses observed the same object or type of object.
What can be established is that Colorado Springs has appeared before in the PURSUE archive.
As Unknown Country reported in June, an earlier tranche included a 2022 encounter involving an unusual “potato-shaped” object reportedly observed over Cheyenne Mountain. That object was described as creamy or whitish, somewhat translucent and composed of irregular, scale-like panels that appeared to move in slow waves.
Cheyenne Mountain is associated with the North American Aerospace Defense Command, making the broader Colorado Springs, Colorado region particularly significant from an aerospace and national-security standpoint. But proximity to sensitive military infrastructure does not, by itself, establish a connection between these sightings and military activity.
For now, the government has supplied witness accounts and FBI-created artistic renderings, not an explanation. The U.S. Defense Department explicitly describes the materials in the PURSUE archive as unresolved cases.
What remains is an unusual geographic pattern: three dramatically different reported UAP encounters in the Colorado Springs area across two years of incidents now preserved in the government’s public files.
Whether that concentration ultimately proves meaningful—or merely reflects the reports selected, investigated and released—remains unknown.
