During the STS-80 mission, which was launched on November 19, 1996, the Space Shuttle Columbia took a crew of five astronauts on an 18 day trip around the Earth, the longest flight in the history of the shuttle. During the flight, astronaut Story Musgrave looked out the shuttle windows and saw a large, disc-shaped object. After years of silence, he’s finally started talking about it. The UFO was large–between 50 and 150 feet in diameter–and the outer rim was rotating in a counter-clockwise direction. During the incident, Musgrave said, "I don’t know what it is. Whether it’s a washer, debris, ice particles, I don’t know. But it’s characteristic of the thousands of things which I’ve seen. What is not so characteristic is it appears to come from nowhere. You would think that if it’s facing the dark side or facing a side towards you which is not reflecting the sun, you would think that you would see something there. It’s really impressive."
Gordon Cooper reported a green glowing object in his May 1963 Gemini mission, which was confirmed as a solid object by the Muchea tracking station in Australia. He testified before the United Nations: "I believe that these extra-terrestrial vehicles and their crews are visiting this planet from other planets."
In June of 1965 on another Gemini mission Ed White and James McDivitt reported seeing an object with long arms protruding from it. They took a photograph, which NASA has refused to release.
In December of that year, James Lovell and Frank Borman observed an unidentified object near their capsule, which Lovell reported as a "bogey." It was not the booster rocket, which they also had in sight. This sighting, also, was never explained by NASA.
More controversially Neill Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin observed an object on the moon shortly after their landing. Allegedly, Aldrin has claimed that we were warned off the moon by aliens, but he has never confirmed that he made such remarks.
Gordon Cooper also said that he had seen and photographed a landed UFO when he was stationed at Edwards Air Force base, but that the pictures had been sent to Washington and never released. Whitley Strieber says, "Dr. Cooper personally told me this story, so I can certainly vouch for it, and for his conviction that UFOs are real and that this reality is being concealed."
