The US government is trying to block sections of a UN resolution on global warming that will be presented at an international meeting in June. The US objects to resolutions aimed at keeping the temperature rise to a certain level and cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2050.
In BBC News, Richard Black reports that the US has proposed the following revisions: Removing sentences thatsay, “climate change is speeding up and will seriously damage our common natural environment and severely weaken (the) global economy… resolute action is urgently needed in order to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions” and “we are deeply concerned about the latest findings confirmed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).” According to Black, “US negotiators also want to remove from the draft firm targets for improving energy efficiency in buildings and transport, and a call for the establishment of a global carbon market.”
