Weekender: Incontrovertible Evidence of Saudi 9-11 involvement?

On 9th September, 2001, the world’s worst terrorist attack occurred, killing almost 3000 people. The official explanation for the terrible terrorist attacks that occurred on 11th September 2001, that the attacks were perpetrated by the terrorist group, al Qaeda, has been relentlessly disputed by researchers. In the four co-ordinated incidents, four passenger airplanes were hijacked by terrorists; two were flown directly into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, and a third plane was crashed into the Pentagon offices in Washington. The fourth plane crashed into a field, but it was thought that its intended target was Washington D.C.

The public was told that al Qaeda acted alone, with no state affiliation or sponsorship, but evidence has come to light which appears to prove that vital information was withheld and suppressed by the U.S. government during the Bush administration.

The information was originally contained in an 800 page Congress investigative report , entitled “Joint Inquiry Into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001" which was released in 2002. A whole 28 page section dealing with ‘specific sources of foreign support’ for the terrorists, however, was inexplicably removed, leaving the pages totally blank.

The missing portion, which comprised around 7,200 words, disappeared behind a veil of secrecy which was maintained until recently when two lawmakers were given access to the edited segment and were astonished by what they discovered.

Republican Representative Walter Jones of North Carolina and Democratic Representative Stephen Lynch of Massachusetts pronounced themselves to be "absolutely shocked" when they learned that there had been a significant level of state involvement behind the terrorists attacks, but federal law prevents them from revealing which nation was involved. Consequently, the Congressmen now want to propose legislation that would force President Obama to declassify the whole document and make it public knowledge.

Gaining access to the secret documents was not easy, and it took a protracted literary assault by Jones and Lynch on the White House intelligence panel before the censored information was released to them. They are in the minority, as although the missing section contains some of the most important revelations in history, few lawmakers have made the effort to access the document.

Despite the restrictions surrounding the classified information some details have been leaked into the public domain, and these reveal that the implicated nation is Saudi Arabia. As 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi nationals, this fact does not come as a huge surprise, but the Saudi government has vehemently denied any involvement in the attacks.

Yet the evidence against the oil-rich nation appears to be indisputable: one CIA memo contained in the document states that "incontrovertible evidence" had been found to incriminate high-ranking Saudi government officials and intelligence officers. The memo describes how the hijackers received financial and logistical assistance from diplomats and wealthy commercial sources.

Bill Doyle, the father of a man lost in the World Trade Center attacks, called the conspiracy to exclude details of Saudi involvement in 9/11 as “coverup beyond belief.” Doyle, who currently leads the Coalition of 9/11 Families, has initiated an email campaign to relatives of those killed in the attacks, urging them to lobby their representatives in Congress to for release of the censored information.

It seems that the hijackers received help from Saudi representatives across the United States, including Saudi consulate official Fahad al-Thumairy, who allegedly arranged for an advance team from the Los Angeles consulate to receive two of the Saudi hijackers — Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi — as they arrived at LAX in 2000. One of the consulate team was Omar al-Bayoumi, thought to be a Saudi intelligence agent, who left the United States two months before the attacks, while Thumairy was deported back to Saudi Arabia after 9/11.

In San Diego, Bayoumi and another agent, Osama Bassnan, set up an operations base for the hijackers after they left L.A., where they were given support in the form of accommodation, phones and living expenses. Osama Bassnan apparently received support from the Saudi Ambassador Prince Bandar and his wife who sent him checks totaling some $130,000, though the Bandars claim that these checks were intended as “welfare” payments for Bassnan’s ailing wife.

Further substantiate evidence has been mounting over the years, as other al Qaeda funding was traced back to Bandar and the Saudi embassy he worked for, with the result that the Riggs Bank of Washington dropped the Saudis as clients in 2004. When Bassnan’s name began to crop up too regularly in the ensuing investigations into 9/11, Riyadh recalled him, presumably for "personal reasons", though an investigator with the Joint Terrorism Task Force in Washington commented that “Our investigations contributed to the ambassador’s departure.”

At a local Saudi-funded mosque in San Diego, the L.A. hijackers met with other key players in the terrorist ring, including Anwar al-Awlaki, a notorious al Qaeda member. Awlaki was known to work closely with the Saudi Embassy; he was seen with the San Diego hijackers at the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center, a Pentagon-area mosque built with funds from the Saudi Embassy. Awlaki was recruited 3,000 miles away to head the mosque, and as its imam, was able to orchestrate helpers to who supplied the hijackers with apartments and IDs before they attacked the Pentagon.

Awlaki left the U.S. under suspicious circumstances on a Saudi jet a year after 9/11, after a federal warrant for his arrest had mysteriously been withdrawn the previous day. He was killed in Yemen by a U.S. drone in 2011.

On the 8th September 2001, it was noted by the FBI that a prominent Saudi government official, Saleh Hussayen, stayed at the same Marriott Residence Inn near Dulles Airport as the three Saudi hijackers who targeted the Pentagon. The odd circumstance was that Hussayen had moved to the Marriott from a nearby hotel, suggesting that this was specifically to meet with the hijackers, though this was never confirmed by the FBI. Though Hussayen was questioned he was released after allegedly having a seizure, though according to one FBI agent, this was obviously feigned. Consequently, Hussayen’s name does not appear in the 9/11 Commission report, effectively clearing the Saudis of any involvement there.
In Sarasota, Fl., the infamous leader of the terrorists, Mohamed Atta, and his deadly team visited the home of Esam Ghazzawi, who was a Saudi adviser to the nephew of King Fahd. Visitor logs confirm the presence of the hijackers there, yet strangely, two weeks before the attacks, the luxurious home was left abandoned, along with all of its expensive contents and new cars on the driveway.

The evidence confirming Saudi involvement in the attacks appears to be irrefutable, as does the evidence to suggest the subsequent suppression of the crucial facts by the Bush administration. Bob Graham, a Democrat and former Florida senator who chaired the Joint Inquiry, maintains that there is a "cover-up". He has asked the FBI for the Sarasota case files, but so far has not been able to get a single page of these released.

FBI case agents told Paul Sperry, Hoover Institution media fellow and author of “Infiltration” and “Muslim Mafia," that they were called off pursuing 9/11 leads back to the Saudi Embassy, which seemed to have a mysterious influence over the way that the White House and the FBI investigated the attacks . The FBI carried out the evacuation of dozens of Saudi officials from the U.S., along with members of Osama Bin Laden’s family, just a few days after President Bush met with the Saudi ambassador in the White House. It is reported that the two old family friends shared cigars on the Truman Balcony while discussing the attacks.

It remains inconceivable that the cover-up of such vital information continues to this day. Congress should continue to lobby the White House for release of the facts as they remain as relevant today as in 2001. An addendum to the original Joint Inquiry report reads thus:

“State-sponsored terrorism substantially increases the likelihood of successful and more ¬lethal attacks within the United States.”

A massive public relations campaign took place after 9/11 when it transpired that a high proportion of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, as relations between the Arab state and the U.S. had always been extremely close since 1931 when oil was discovered there, and an interdependent relationship was created and sustained by the supply and demand for ‘black gold’.

In an attempt to turn public opinion back in their favor, Saudi Arabia hired Washington based lobbying firm Patton Boggs and PR group Qorvis for over $15 million to promote the viewpoint that there was "no evidence that the Saudi government as an institution or senior Saudi officials individually funded al-Qaeda."

The Saudis may require a little more than good PR in order to recover from this situation, however, as intelligence files cited in the report show that both the Saudi embassy in Washington and the consulate in Los Angeles were directly involved in the orchestration of the attacks.

This defines the 9/11 incident not as an act of terrorism, but as an act of war.
