The next war won’t be over conflicts in Asia or the Middle East–between India and Pakistan or Israel and the Palestinians. If history is any guide, it will be a result of climate change. Examples from the past include the Thirty Years’ War between Europe’s most powerful countries, which last for years during the some of Europe’s coldest decades. It soon went from bad to worse as the Plague arrived.
On Wired.com, Sara Reardon writes: "A controversial new study suggests that most of humankind’s maladies–from wars to epidemics to economic downturns–can be traced to climate fluctuations." 1560 was the start of a century of cold weather, which led to shorter growing seasons and widespread hunger. During this time, the average person’s height declined by an inch. The earth began to warm up again in 1660, the beginning of the Enlightenment. Will this happen again soon?
In the Guardian, Fiona Harvey writes: "The world is likely to build so many fossil-fuelled power stations, energy-guzzling factories and inefficient buildings in the next 5 years that it will become impossible to hold global warming to safe levels, and the last chance of combating dangerous climate change will be lost for ever. Anything built from now on that produces carbon will do so for decades, and this ‘lock-in’ effect will be the single factor most likely to produce irreversible climate change."
She quotes economist Fatih Birol as saying, if we don’t change direction now on how we use energy, we will end up beyond what scientists tell us is the minimum (for safety). The door will be closed forever."
The Master of the Key WARNED Whitley about this when he burst into his hotel room in Toronto in 1998. He had information about many other things as well, and you can discover them all in this slim but wonderful book that is filled with wisdom. You can get it from your local bookstore, and you can ALSO get it from the Whitley Strieber Collection, and if you do, it will come with an autographed bookplate designed by Whitley!
