Linda Howe reports that on May 17, 2012, an FBI and Homeland Security "Roll Call Release" for Police, Fire, EMS and Security Personnel was distributed on the internet. The release states that "terrorists may seek to emulate overseas attacks on theaters here in the United States because they have the potential to inflict mass casualties and cause local economic damage." Was the Aurora shooter James Holmes, like army psychiatrist Major Nidal Hassan, who killed 12 soldiers and one civilian at Fort Hood in 2009, a jihadist who was "turned" by the internet?
Blogger Jessica Redfield recently moved from San Antonio to Denver, where she was interning at a sports radio station and blogging about the NFL. She was one of the 12 victims of the movie theater shooter.
In USA Today, Mike Foss reports that shortly before the film started she had a premonition and tweeted, " I can’t get this odd feeling out of my chest. This empty, almost sickening feeling won’t go away. I noticed this feeling when I was in the Eaton Center in Toronto just seconds before someone opened fire in the food court. An odd feeling which led me to go outside and unknowingly out of harm’s way. It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around how a weird feeling saved me from being in the middle of a deadly shooting."
But this time she ignored her premonition and stayed in the theater–and died.
There have been many seemingly senseless massacres in the US. Some of these are:
1966, Austin Texas Tower, 16 dead
1982, Pennsylvania, 13 dead
1984, San Diego McDonalds’s, 21 dead
1986, Oklahoma postal, 14 dead
1991, Kileen, Texas, 23 dead
1999, Littleton, Colorado (Columbine), 13 dead
2007, Virginia Tech shooting, 32 dead
2009, Fort Hood, Texas Massacre, 13 dead
As New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg–who, like most mayors–is afraid of the copycat effect (NOTE: Subscribers can still listen to this show) says, we obviously need better gun laws.
It was "guns, germs and steel" that wiped out the Indians–or did they? Maybe there’s a secret tribe hidden away that still exists–and still has all its secrets.
